Music Scholarships
The 2017 Under 15 Edward Callaghan Music Scholarship Championship was held at the Irish American Association NW Jersey Feis on September 10, 2017.  The competition was won by Emily McFadden from Gaithersburg, MD. The
second place winner was Jonathon Ford from Harwich, MA.  Congratulations to all the talented competitors!

The 2017 15 and Over James Brennan Music Scholarship Championship was held at the Detroit International Feis on June 3, 2017.  The competition was won by Marilena Mohan from Kitchener, Ontario, her teachers are Nicole Guse and Dan MacDonald.  The event was adjudicated by Mary Lou Schade and Jim Butke.  Marilena was invited to play on stage with Ena O'Brien for the remainder of the Feis, join us in congratulating this very talented future Feis musician!

Under 15 Edward Callaghan Music Championship was held at the Catskill Mountain Feis on August 6, 2016 and was won by
P.J. Doran from the Loughran School of Music in Yonkers, New York.
Ed Callaghan, Jimmy early and Bernadette Broderick presented the awards.  There was 10 competitors, the adjudicators were
Jimmy Early and Maggie Ritnour.

COMPETITOR ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

FOR MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION

1. Age will be determined as of January 1

2. Musicians who have received compensation to play at a feis are not eligible.

3. Competitor must supply their own instrument and metronome and be capable of playing the melody of tunes specified in the syllabus to the proper metronomic speeds. Competitors must choose to play an instrument from the following list:  Button or piano accordion, concertina, melodian, piano or keyboard, violin, flute, tin whistle, banjo, uilleann pipes, or harp.

4. Competitor must be a resident of North America.

5. Competitor must report to the assigned stage, ready to compete, when the scholarship competition is announced. Under no circumstance will the competition be delayed because a competitor is not present. 

6. The prompting or coaching of competitors during the competition is prohibited.

7. There will be no second or third places awarded in the music competition.

 

 

UNDER 15 YEARS AGE CATEGORY                                                          $500.00 SCHOLARSHIP

 

Competitor must be prepared to play all tunes from the following list: The adjudicators will select a hard and soft shoe dance from the list.

The Competitor will play an 8 bar introduction and then the tune.  A dancer selected by the Feis committee will begin dancing immediately following the 8 bar introduction and dance two steps.
